Music

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church has a vibrant music program with a small and spirited choir. Our weekly services begin with a lively processional, feature a choir anthem, and close with everyone joyfully singing “Amen!”. We draw from both the Presbyterian and African American Heritage hymnals, and the weekly program encourages congregational singing throughout the service.

The choir is led by talented Music Director Sandra Iglehart, a California native who resides in Hayward. Along with directing the St. Andrew choir, she also leads the Allen Temple Baptist Church’s Women’s Chorus, and is a member of the South Bay Community Church in Fremont.

Sandra holds a BA degree in Music and MA degree in Vocal Performance. She’s a retired vocal music teacher from the Hayward Unified School District (where she taught for 38 years), and also teaches piano for beginning adults and children – privately, and at Chabot College (Hayward) through their Community Ed Program and the Betty D. Gadling Fine Arts Academy.

Sandra is the proud mother of sons Jason, and James who won the 2014 Tony Award for his role as the Genie in the Broadway musical “Aladdin”. She has also published a book titled, “The Old Folks Said It … And That Settles It!” (a compilation of ‘Black Sayings’ with interpretation). Her personal motto: “If You can use anything, Lord, You can use me.”
